BYOK: Bring Your Own API Key

BYOK -- Bring Your Own Key -- is a feature that lets you use your existing API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google with TeamBench. Instead of consuming TeamBench credits for AI interactions, the API calls are made using your keys, and you are billed directly by the AI provider at their standard rates.

This feature is particularly valuable for organizations that already have API agreements with AI providers, teams with high-volume usage that would benefit from direct API pricing, and users who want to access specific models that might not be available through TeamBench's default offering.

To set up BYOK, navigate to Settings and find the API Keys section. Enter your API key for any supported provider -- you can add keys for one, two, or all three providers. Each key is encrypted and stored securely. TeamBench never exposes your full key after it has been saved.

When you have a BYOK key configured and select a model from that provider, TeamBench automatically routes the API call through your key instead of its own. The review and chat experience is identical -- the only difference is where the AI usage is billed. You see the same scoring, the same feedback, and the same features.

Credit consumption changes with BYOK. When using your own keys, interactions with that provider do not consume TeamBench credits. This effectively gives you unlimited usage for that provider, limited only by your API spend limit with the provider. Your TeamBench credits are still consumed for any interactions using providers where you have not configured a BYOK key.

There are a few considerations when using BYOK. You are responsible for managing your API spend limits and monitoring usage with the provider directly. TeamBench does not impose additional rate limits beyond what your API key allows, so high-volume usage will be reflected in your provider invoice. Ensure your API keys have appropriate permissions and spending limits configured.

BYOK does not affect which models are available or how they perform. The AI evaluation, scoring, and feedback are the same whether the call goes through TeamBench's keys or yours. The routing is purely a billing mechanism.

For organizations with enterprise AI provider agreements that include volume discounts or custom terms, BYOK can result in significant cost savings compared to using TeamBench credits for high-volume usage. Calculate your expected monthly AI API cost and compare it to the equivalent TeamBench credit cost to determine which approach is more economical for your usage pattern.
