In Universal Analytics, session duration was calculated using page timestamps, making last-page time unmeasurable. GA4 uses engagement time, which more accurately tracks active user time. Session duration is an indicator of content quality and site stickiness. Longer sessions generally suggest users find the site valuable and explore multiple pages. However, like all metrics, it requires context: a long session on a support page might indicate difficulty finding answers.
